BABY'S FIRST HOURS
To better support your child at birth, you must realize what being born represents for him: he will experiencecontractions just like his mother but he is not relieved in any way because that is not possible. He will therefore be born feeling stressed but also energized by the adrenaline he received during the contractions.
It is this adrenaline that will allow him to face this ordeal of birth where he will have to become independent, that is to say, become an individual who breathes, who warms himself, who will digest and who will learn all of this.
Fortunately, this brand new baby, who seems very inexperienced to us, has very effective natural means. A baby can go and get the mother's breast All alone, without being shown, he begins to breathe in a magnificent way, with lungs that are, just before birth, full of liquid.
The baby is stimulated because he encounters many unpleasant sensations around him.
His environment was very comfortable in his mother's womb, where he was nestled away from the light, away from the cold, caressed by the amniotic fluid, massaged by the walls of the uterus.
All this disappears at once, he falls into a great void, where space is unlimited, where he feels nakedness, he feels the change of temperature, where he is blinded by the light and jumps at every sound.
All young parents have been able to observe during the first days the jumps that a baby makes, even just by moving an arm, so much so that he encounters an environment around him that surprises him.
The baby will adapt because it is extremely well equipped to adapt. All babies evolve into what we know as a way of life.
He needs to be reassured during this period of transition: the first days of life are a real decompression chamber between two very different worlds.
This is where the cuddles of the parents come in, which need to be really close to him, ready to respond constantly to his request. A crying baby is not throwing a tantrum, he has no intention, he is simply really worried, really anxious, even distressed. Never hesitate, in the early days of life, to take your baby when he cries and realize that it is magic.
Don't worry if he doesn't try to eat, a baby has to prepare his digestive tract before he can feed himself. This will take 2 or 3 days during which he will drink very little.
The baby will therefore live on its reserves in the early days and sleep a lot.
And little by little wake up, demand, eat and digest. This will cause strange sensations in his stomach, called colic which will make him cry much louder at that time. But it is an adaptation period and it should pass and improve.
A young parent must therefore put themselves at the service of their baby, and be compassionate when the latter is unhappy. This is how we can make them a reassured, balanced adult and prevent them from remaining anxious throughout their existence.
